I'm in Pennsylvania - south central area. The weather people are making a big thing about the snow, but apparently it will be a couple of inches, barely worth noticing.

Christmas here is not the sort that people write about. No tree; no decorations; no outside lights; no Christmas cards sent out. I did put up one ornament. And I ran the vacuum cleaner around the living room.

However, all the time and money saved has been or will be spent on a New Year's Eve party with some very good champagne - Nicholas Feuillate Rose - and marinated mushrooms, stuffed mushrooms, mushroom spreads, etc.

And the guests will be greeted as they arrive at my front door. I have a fake tree which is activated by movement. Eyes and an open mouth complete with tongue sticking out appear. And it says, "Hi. I'm Douglas Fir." Then it proceeds to sing Christmas carols. I just break out into convulsive laughter every time I hear it. I hope it will put my guests will be in the right mood as they enter the house.

We will eat Quinn and Sharon's fruit at the party...
