But then I started thinking about compassion, and kindness, and doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. And it suddenly occurred to me that I was being...oh, I blush to confess it, but it's true...SPECIST. Yes, specist, because I was applying these rules of compassion and kindness and all the rest of it only to certain species (i.e., humans, dogs, cats, pigs, etc) and not to ALL species (i.e., roaches, worms, sea anemones, paramecium, etc). And then I took it one step further, and decided that if I was going to apply said rule to worms and the like...well, then I owed Mr. Youngblood the same courtesy. Rose
