Weicker vs. Clinton

It may surprise some to learn that Lowell Weicker, the
liberal former Republican senator and former independent
governor of Connecticut, supported the impeachment of
William Jefferson Clinton.
Mr. Weicker, who as a senator was an outspoken critic of
President Nixon during 1974 impeachment proceedings,
praised the House Judiciary Committee in an interview with the
conservative weekly Human Events before Saturday's
impeachment vote.
"I was glad the Judiciary Committee voted to bring the
articles of impeachment to the floor, and I sure hope the House
votes for impeachment," Mr. Weicker said, adding that he had
twice voted for Mr. Clinton and twice endorsed him publicly.
