>underscores how closely bound Compaq is to personal computers
>and how much difficulty it has had translating its computer-making skills to
>new businesses. Even after its recent purchases of big computer makers
>Digital Equipment Corp. and Tandem Computers, PC products will
>account for 70% of its $11 billion in sales in the quarter ending Dec. 31.

Then going with this section of the WSJ article, Compaq better get its act together FAST and make it a LOT more buyer-friendly to make a PC purchase through their web site. The concerns I expressed last night then this morning, in reply to Shawn, are more relevant now than ever.

Steve,
In retrospect, if one looks at Cabletron's results and their continuing statements about customers not buying, to some respect the writing was on the wall here.

Regards,
John

RE: Compaq is phasing out manufacturing
and disbanding key engineering groups.

Possible positive spin in terms of the slow moving reduction of workforce?

Comments?

Re:CPQ REMARKS------Reminds me, and has for about five years, as a company where it's "emporer without clothes" leader Mr Flubber has gone up to the castle on the hill and told the "big guy"-Hey "I can make gold"-so he then sucks up ten poshy years of good living UNTIL it finally dawns on the King that "this guy" is an increible phony and he finally kicks the phony back out onto the dusty road below the castle.Soon the King will come to! CPQ will be DELLMOLISHED.
