All military action is "orchestrated", because all proper
military action is political, in the correct use of the
term political.

The uncomfortable part is what balance is used in the many, many parts of any decision to employ 'billions' to affect a political outcome.
I give Scott Ritter credit for having his doubts,
and I always reserve my reservations until the facts come in...but
be very very careful placing more weight on one disgruntled passionate
employee over several hundred equally passionate non-disgruntled
employees. I suspect their is some truth on both sides.

Don't forget, Iran held hostages to affect the political outcome of Jimmy Carter, what makes you think Sadam is not pulling strings in the same way. These guys go to the same night school and have the same professors. Correspondance courses in original thinking is hard to come by over there, because they keep living the same soap opera day after day.

My first inclination is to agree with you, but I am not really well informed on the mid-East situation, especially the details of Saddam's threat with chemical weapons, etc. So I'll hold the inclination in reserve and leave it to those who have studied this.

I don't post on third-hand information. But yes, looks as if that was a seriously bad move.
