PR NEWSWIRE) Large On-line Sales Expected in December
Large On-line Sales Expected in December

RESTON, Va., Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Shoppers in the U.S. purchased a
significant amount of computer products this Christmas, according to a recent
on-line poll conducted by PC Data. Nearly 71 percent of those currently on-
line purchased computer products as gifts, and the most frequently purchased
products were PC games and educational software. In keeping with the trend
toward falling prices, shoppers expect to spend relatively modest amounts for
these products. In December, 47.4 percent of people surveyed said they expect
to spend under $100, 39.4 percent between $100 and $500, and only 13 percent
anticipate spending more than $500. Although 75 percent of survey respondents
said they expect to purchase PC products from stores, nearly 40 percent plan
to do some shopping for these products on-line.
The survey of 700 on-line individuals also indicated that 54 percent
purchased non-PC products through the Web during the holidays. Of those that
purchased on-line, nearly half bought music and books, while more than 20
percent purchased clothing, toys and movies on-line.
"Not surprisingly, individuals with a household income above $80,000 and
those who have owned PCs for 6+ years were more likely to shop on-line," said
PC Data president Ann Stephens, "but nearly every group was strongly
represented in on-line shopping. Men, women, computer novices, and those with
years of experience all took part in a very large way. This has become main-
stream." (For a complete text of the survey, please go to www.pcdata.com)
