To cause a squeeze you don't need to take actual possession of the certificates, just move them from your margin to your cash account. Your shares can not be lent to shorts if your securities are held in a cash account.

The only problems with taking possession of your certificates or with moving them to your cash account, are that you can't sell them on a quick decision, and you lose the margin buying power that you get from them.--Linda
