It would be interesting to run that article by Barrick and get their response - somehow it seems to me that a producer is a true hedger (or should be) and is in a different position from a pure speculator like a hedge fund who never has the gold, but simply borrows gold and sells it, without ever owning it. I agree that this is a very strange transaction (fraudulent might be the correct word) because something is sold to a third party by someone (the lessee) who doesn't have title.
