<<As I recall, the reason for not going after Saddam during the wrap-up of the Gulf War had nothing to do with destabilizing Iraq. The military in general was in favor of taking him out, but explained to Bush that there was likely to be considerable loss of American ground troops in the process. Bush decided that the cost would not be politically acceptable to the public-at-large.>>

That was part of it but what I heard Bush say was that we were partnered with 38 other nations and had a UN mandate to get Iraq out of Kuwait. No Saddam hunt. Actually the slaughter of parts of the Republican Guard and the assault on Saddam's armor on the get out of Dodge road kinda pushed the mandate.

Funny, Bush had 38 partners, a UN mandate and the Russians stayed mute. Not quite the same as Clinton's remake.

Well, it would have been acceptable to those who would have had to risk their lives on the ground...as I recall, the Iraqi "troops" were waving white flags and presenting their rear-ends to the US forces...it was truly SAD to see men so demoralized by sadmans islamic dictatorship...I doubt we would have had much of a "ground war".

So those babies are dying because George chose political expediency over "doing the right thing"...

I think it had more to do with the burning rigs...and the election.

I don't think the human male would know what to do with actual "world peace".

It isn't desirable, for some reason.
