You are right! Building the Internet is like building freeways-
Remember when the new freeway opened? The traffic bubble moves to another location and the commute time actually increases. The easy answer is DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing). That's why you need to have DWDM stocks in addition to holding PAIR. The last mile improvements will drive demand for DWDM and the bubble will constantly move from place to place; but, hopefully overall performance will significantly improve.

Just a comment:
I think the bottleneck is in my head more than anywhere else. I
can't possibly process all these text coming down without getting a
headache. Pictures I can process quicker and video a bit more.
Just an observation, I have a Telebit 8840 and with my cpu tied to
it at 115,200 bps, modem to modem connect at 31.2k bps, therefore
roughly 4:1 compression. With these set-up I can't find any sites
that can pump me to the hilt, peaked around 75kbps averaging 25-30k
bps ( this modem counts bits coming in). I am running Netscape browsing 5 sites, quote.com, SI, #daytraders, streaming steamy pix,
on-line broker and yahoo news. Peaks at 75-76kbps. I am already info
overloaded <g!@#*(%^%#>. Happy Holidays. Go PAIR.
