< I believe CMGI has dividended IPO stock in the past (Lycos?). If any long-time holders are here, please tell whether this is true. >

True re: Lycos. However, CEO David Wetherell stated on the Yahoo CMGI thread (he posted there for a few weeks in Aug '98) that CMGi was not planning to dividend shares on any future IPO's. He indicated that this was due to tax laws that did not favor this type of arrangement.

He is a *very* classy guy. Those posts are worth the read. After I read them, I doubled my holding to 25% of my portfolio. And am I glad I did!

Long CMGi and loving it!

Rob

i didn't own the stock then but i had heard that they dividended lycos in 97 - when asked if they would be doing it for future ipos, the ceo d. wetherell stated during august/99 yahoo CMGI message board conversations that this dividending was not something they wanted to do in the future because it's not tax efficient - sorry, i'm unable to elaborate on why it isn't tax efficient - maybe someone else has additional info. to mine

I'm one of those long time (and very happy) CMGI holders who received the Lycos dividend. At that time, Lycos was trading for 13 and CMGI was in the mid twenties pre last split if I am remembering correctly. The dividend was one share of Lycos for about every 16 shares of CMGI.

I received my CMGI annual statement yesterday. I don't have it in front of me now, but they did mention the Lycos dividend and something to the effect that they would like to do the same in the future with other companies they bring public. I'll dig up the exact wording if anyone is interested.

This thread sure has gotten a lot more interesting this year! Good luck to all. '99 shouldn't disappoint us.
