Alcatel Sets Up ADSL Program With Taiwan Research Institute

Dow Jones Newswires

TAIPEI -- Alcatel Taisel, a unit of Alcatel SA (ALA) of France, will
cooperate with the Computer and Communications Research Laboratories of
the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Taiwan to set up
an inter-operability testing program for ADSL technology, Alcatel said
in a press release on Monday.

Asymmetric digital subscriber lines (ADSL) technology gives users
high-speed Internet access over traditional copper telephone lines.

The program will allow Taiwanese modem makers to test the compatibility
of their ADSL customer premises equipment with Alcatel's central office
equipment and make headway in the global ADSL market, according to the
release.

ITRI, the largest non-profit telecommunications labortory in Taiwan, has
been working on customer premises equipment based on Alcatel's ATM-DMT
chipset.

Telecommunications equipment manufacturer Alcatel currently enjoys a 40%
share of the global ADSL market.

I believe ITEX is delisted from Nasdq last week as they could not keep the minimum $ 2 Million float. I believe it is still quoted on pink sheets. Please check this out on ITEX thread on techstocks.com.
