ian, you say direct models - plural. i don't dispute dell's success. however, muei and gtw suck. so, who's the other successful big time direct seller that could boost intel's output so much?

cpq just started their direct and they may have stuffed the channel to get started up with the intent of reducng inventory as they get started.

in any case, hwp lowered a good corporate pc 20% this week and toshiba lowered their laptops 14%. if the indirect thesis is correct (and one company doesn't defin and industry, imho) then the indirects will lower their prices to compete. the successful direct seller (dell) will be obliged to do the same or lose business.
