San Francisco - The United States Postal Service (USPS) today issued its
environmental "New Years Resolutions," part of which includes a pledge
to increase the use of alternative-fuel vehicles (AFVs), including electric
vehicles (EVs). Dennis Baca, a USPS environmental management policy
manager, said, "In 1999 the Postal Service will focus more than ever on
creating business advantages with its environmental policy. We want our
employees and customers to know that taking care of the environment is not
only the right thing to do, it is also good for the business bottom line." The
USPS also intends to encourage the use of renewable energy and
energy-efficient lighting, strive to cut its energy consumption, encourage
recycling of mail, promote mail-order shopping, buy recycled products,
promote environmental-protection stamps and "incorporate the concept of
Good Earthkeeping" into its own business practices.
