On a grimly serious not you can get Norton Crashguard. There are other anti crash programs that will rescue you from mousicles and other freezy things. I cannot attest to their effectiveness as I just save everything every 2 minutes and reboot when I have to.

X windows has similar problems. Mostly related to older kernels and badly behaved games and netscape. I have found different distributions have different problems. I can crash X in Redhat 5.1 by clicking on certain menu items. But I can get out of some X freezes in Redhat by changing consoles whereas in Slackware 3.5 I cannot seem to.

I am hoping if I can get my Linux GUI written it will not have that problem. Certainly right now X is too closely tied to the kernel. The good news is this is supposed to change soon.
