Just a thought about Telesurveys. The recent update about Quest stated that they had eight projects going with pharmaceutical companies. It has been a common practice for these companies to pay physicians to answer surveys. (Doctors will do anything for money!) Often they would print the survey on the back of a check, usually for about $2. They counted on you filling out the survey before you cashed the check. Between those that were cashed without being filled out, the cost of administering this and bring together the data, I would think this would end up costing $3-$4 per survey. This information is obviously important to them as they try to determine physicians' prescribing patterns so that they can train their sales force accordingly. The tough thing about being a pharmaceutical rep is that you never actually close a sale. You make your presentation and hope that the next time that doctor writes a prescription he will remember your drug.

All this to say, I think these companies will jump at this opportunity (apparently some already have) to get the information they need more quickly and efficiently, maybe even at a reduced cost. I am sure this will be true of other industries as well.

Looking forward to a prosperous '99.
