You're on the right track.

Since Compaq was the only major OEM to use this part, I think the BOX MAKERS made the decision that a 400 MHZ K6-2 wasn't worth much more than a 300 or 350 MHz K6-2.

After all, they each are stuck with a fixed 100 MHz L2 cache speed.

Sharpy is late.

The later it gets, the cheaper it is going to sell for.

And Sharpy is late.
