gmccon, Dang! I just wrote a really long reply to you- and erased it by accident! Well let me reply tomorrow. For the time being go to

for an exhaustive NPR analysis called "Chemical Weapons in the Sudan-Allegations and Evidence". It discusses the US airstrike and the possibility that there are as many as seven chemical weapons plants being built with Iraqi assistance in the Sudan. Indeed the biggest and worst is actually located right in the embassy district in Khartoum, thereby preventing any air strike against it. Al Shifa was an alternate target. But note that Eman al-Ani Iraqi and Father of Iraq's VX program has been spending lots of time in the Sudan.

Tomorrow I'll discuss the history of east Africa-it involves Arab colonialism, the Omani Empire, and slave trade- and the Africans' resistance thereto. Ever hear of Mirambo of Tanzania? Indeed the current war in the Sudan between the Arab Moslem north and African Christian south is IMO another chapter in this sordid history.

Also the US as of two years ago is providing some indirect assistance to the African resistance movement known as the SPLA through Sudan's African neighbors to the south, Uganda, Eritrea, Rwanda, and Ethiopia, and after the embassy bombings last summer, Kenya and Tanzania have agreed to assist in the effort to out the NIF Military Junta.

Basically the Clinton/Gore Administation is waffling as to what to do about the NIF regime in the Sudan- contain them or oust them. Meanwhile thousand more are dying weekly as the NIF regime intentionally inpoverishes the Africans leaving them exposed to numerous debilitating diseases such as malaria, sleeping sickness, etc., and disrupting their ability to plant and harvest crops or school their children.

More to follow....
