Shockwaves sere felt through the corridors of power today as the government released its figures for the next financial year. As we have seen so many times before there are some winners and some losers.

One of the biggest upsets was the revelation that the Ministry of Silly Walks will be brought into line with other departments such as Defence, Social Security, Health, Housing and Education. Its funding will be sliced to an all time low of £348,000,000.

Fears that drastic cuts will obviously have to be made were confirmed and, as expected, it will be the essential grants for the development of newer and sillier walks that will be the first to go.

The matter is now headed for the European Parliament in Brussels where the French contingent, hosts of the internationally acclaimed silly walk "L'Anglais-Francaise Marche Futile", will undoubtedly rally round and set fire to a few truckloads of prime English lamb.

Ministers here are worried that the cut in funding could put them in a very embarrassing and compromising position. However, it's believed that most members should find nothing unusual about that!
