Sources close to the matter feel SCHLUMBERGER LTD (SLB) would be the leading candidate to acquire CAM, with SMITH INT'L (SII) and BJ SERVICES CO (BJS) also on the prowl. Today June 19, 1998 Schlumberger Ltd. (SLB), a leading oilfield services company, said Friday it had agreed to acquire one of its smaller rivals, Camco International Inc. (CAM) in a stock swap worth $3.14 billion. Under a definitive agreement signed by the companies, Camco shareholders will receive 1.18 Schlumberger shares in exchange for each Camco share. Camco shares closed at $62.25 on Thursday. Schlumberger closed at $69.94."
