Big Pharma Scoreboard: 12/28/98

- The Big Pharma YTD Index (+45.3%) reached its all-time high on Thursday and continues to beat the born again Dow (+16.6%) and S&P (+26.3%). The NASTie (+37.8%) is making a strong Internet/tech charge at year end. It's been a dartboard year for Big Pharma. Every one of the "Healthy 13" have gains over 20%. In a late rush, AMGN (+86.6%) has taken the Big Pharma lead on the basis of their lawsuit win over last place (and MF DRIP favorite) JNJ (+20.5%). SGP (+76.9%) and fading WLA (+72.1%) are still battling for place and show. PFE (+60.1%) needs a dose of Celebrex next week to break into the top 3...Probability of a Celebrex FDA approval before the end of the year is 80%.

-For the week, Big Pharma (+3.7%) paced the Dow (+3.5%). AMGN (+14.6%) showed the power of billion dollar product potential.
-
-For December, the SEC will have fun sorting out AMGN (+34.2%) insider trading before the release of the lawsuit news. PFE (+6.6%) is strong and steady.
