Glenn:

Brilliant article ... once again confirms your early and prescient hypothesis re: amzn's business model and economic viability (so difficult for permabulls to face reality, but let them enjoy the mania while it lasts) ... I might point out that it's also one more reality check on bulls' insane predictions of amzn as the walmart of the net -- great idea but

1. brand name to the extent it exists is in books (and vaguely in music)
2. its bot -- junglee has next to 0000 brand name, is not going to seek out the cheapest prices, and competes with mysimon, pricescan, yahoo, xcit, aol/nscp, and msn
3. as for other products, as the article points out, logistically many are a nightmare, the market for many products is limited, amzn has no expertise in these products and no way to assure customers of quality delivery etc.
4. the easy money has been made, macy's now advertises its web site on each NYT's ad (btw, there are literally 10s each week), walmart is gearing up and gomez survey already pointed out that walmart is the second cheapest book seller after allbooks, (amzn merely the 10th)

enjoy the mania while it lasts and itmay for some time, but when it stops please don't moan about it after all, a tulip is just a tulip is just a tulip -- not a bar of gold
