Alex, I went back thru my past prescriptions and
found that I indeed had taken a round of Penni's
methylprednisolone, although not in the medpac format
that she described. It caused my vision to be a bit
blurred because it elevated my blood sugar level up
to diabetes level. Apparently steroids' side effects
vary from person to person. I agree with your
suggestion to be wary.

I also use the mite-proof mattress and pillow coverings,
but haven't noticed any improvement. So the cause of sleep
asthma remains a mystery for me. I'm guessing that it's
some sort of chemical change.

On December 18, AP had an article about the discovery of
a molecule that is involved in causing asthma. There seems
to be hope that development of a blocker against the molecule
could lead to treatment that would stop asthma at its source
instead of treating just symptoms. Sounds hopeful.
