Jesus has raised up his people-the Church--to proclaim his salvation to the whole world. The spirit of evil that opposed Jesus two thousand years ago is the same spirit that guides the children of darkness today. "The Synagogue of satan"(Rev.2;9,3;9) set the standard of slander and hatred against Christ two thousand years ago, and that standard is alive today and continues to do the will of "their father".

(1.) Soon after the Ascension of Christ, the saints of God are ordained by the Church leadership, and these deacons immediately go forth to face the hatred of the "Synagogue of satan" as they begin to proclaim the Gospel of Christ. St. Stephen becomes the first Christian martyr for the faith. These early confrontations between the Church and the "Synagogue of satan" establish and define the conflict between the children of the New Covenant and the children of darkness. The Church became the voice of God proclaming the Gospel and salvation through the Lord Jesus. On the other hand, the "Synagogue" became the voice of opposition to Jesus and his redemption of mankind on the Cross.
Two opposing visions: one leading to light and life in Christ, and the other to darkness and death without Christ. These two visions continue to define the essence of the conflict in our world today.

THE CONFLICT BETWEEN THE CHURCH AND THE SYNAGOGUE
[Acts 6:5...and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost,...]
[Acts 6:6] Whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
[Acts 6:8] And Stephen, full of grace and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.
[Acts 6:9] Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, arose and disputed with Stephen.
[Acts 6:10] But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke.

(2.) The forces of darkness can destroy the flesh, but not the spirit. We already have our victory in Christ.

[Pss 31:3] Yea, thou art my rock and my fortress; for thy name's sake lead me and guide me,
[Pss 31:4] take me out of the net which is hidden for me, for thou art my refuge.
[Pss 31:6] Thou hatest those who pay regard to vain idols; but I trust in the LORD.
[Pss 31:7] I will rejoice and be glad for thy steadfast love, because thou hast seen my affliction, thou hast taken heed of my adversities,
[Pss 31:8] and hast not delivered me into the hand of the enemy; thou hast set my feet in a broad place.
[Pss 31:17] Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I call on thee; let the wicked be put to shame, let them go dumbfounded to Sheol.
[Pss 31:21] Blessed be the LORD, for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me when I was beset as in a besieged city.
[Acts 7:54] Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth against him.
[Acts 7:55] But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God;
[Acts 7:56] and he said, "Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God."
[Acts 7:57] But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together upon him.
[Acts 7:58] Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him; and the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.
[Acts 7:59] And as they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."

(3.) Jesus warns of the tactics and evil of those who would oppose his Kingdom and New Covenant people. The "synagogue of satan" is central to this warning.

[Mat 10:17] Beware of men; for they will deliver you up to councils, and flog you in their synagogues,
[Mat 10:18] and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them and the Gentiles.
[Mat 10:19] When they deliver you up, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour;
[Mat 10:20] for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
[Mat 10:21] Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will
rise against parents and have them put to death;
[Mat 10:22] and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

May the Lord strengthen his children to proclaim the Gospel everywhere and at all times, and destroy the fear and secret evil of those who can kill the body but have no power over our souls. It has become very popular in academic circles, in Government institutions, and in politically acceptable and "polite society" to avoid the name of Jesus in preference for the generic term "god". It is time for Christians to confront those who hate Christ and raise the name and Gospel of Jesus in Love everywhere. RAISE THE BANNER OF CHRIST. THE SCEPTRE OF HIS KINGDOM IS A SCEPTRE OF RIGHTEOUNESS.
