Gilbert, No known bugs on AMD at 350. Microsoft win98 has a sometime flaw due to the processor being faster than the loop, fix on line.
I would suggest you get the AMD processor, but buy it from a small local assembler as they can give you overclocking and extra cooling to run it at 450 MHZ.
Check tomshardware.com and also
anandtech.com
and tweakit.com for more details.

Do not let the Intel boys coax you into a celeron as it has no upgrade path and costs more.
The Compaqs also have no upgrade path, so you cannot change the motherboard, you must toss the machine.Compaq wants you to buy a new box, not to upgrade the motherboard.

Re: your technical questions, in order.

1. which processor runs cooler, generates less heat? Mostly irrelevant, and it depends on what speed you run them at.

2. Do all softwares run on both types of processor? Yes. You will not find any noticable difference in performance between the two.

3. Any known bugs on the AMD processor? Yes, there are hundreds of "bugs" in each of the AMD and INTC series of processors. They should not be of consequence to the end user, as the BIOS, OS, and driver manufacturers, in concert with the product manufacturers keep this stuff mostly "under the blankets"

4. Right now I still have the old Intel Pentium 90 processor and ready to upgrade to much faster processor; if I switch to AMD-K6-2 processor, any problem run the same softwares? There should be no problem. How do you get the STUFF nfrom one computer to the next?

4. I have never seen any incompatibility isues of any consequence between AMMD and INTC. (I have seen more incompatibility issues betwen INTC and INTC than between AMD & INT)

Get a copy of drivecopy(about $50.00), or one of the equivalents from the interenet & copy your hard drive to the new one.

Gilbert - Buy or build a new system. A 450 MHz system should cost under $500 to build. Pick a CPU&MOBO combination(Sound on MOBO), add a 6 to 8 Gig Hard drive for about $150, a 1.4 floppy for $15, & a $50 graphics card & you have better performance for $500 than you could have bought for $2000 this time time last year. I Strongly recommend that you build your next machine. Talk to a good parts place like

If you are running Windows 95, the 350 MHz K6-2 will not BOOT UP properly.

Do you consider that a problem?
