Here is a PART of the October 20, 1998 EARNINGS RELEASE for those who don't recall and those that have not seen it. (in relation to internet) "During the quarter, Microsoft released an updated version of MSN™ and announced plans to launch local MSN portals in 24 additional countries and regions, making it the most widely distributed portal in the world. The network includes several products that are leaders in their respective categories -- including news (MSNBC), automotive (MSN CarPoint™), email (MSN Hotmail) and games (MSN Gaming Zone) -- with a total reach of over 34%, meaning that one-third of all unique users of the Web access an MSN site in the average month according to Media Metrix. The announcement of a one-year $60 million deal with search providers AltaVista, Lycos, Infoseek, and Snap underscores the value of MSN as a distribution point for some of the Internet's best established brands and reinforces the status of MSN as one of the leading portal brands on the Web." Looks like a good internet strategy to me. I had ignored this part of the release back in October because it did not mean much at that time. I have just noticed their great advertising and the review of their internet related business. MSNBC.com did great recently in comparison to CNN.com in evaluating internet news services -- meaning MSN must have done great as well. The company press release a few weeks ago about MSN being the fastest growing portal. Ed, I think their infrastructure for the internet is ready and now firing away. They did a great job this quarter. Just wait for those press releases on how well MSN is doing - it should confirm what we are saying. I think the stock will jump when this data comes out. (not to mention stock split and great earnings)
