Guardian, splits have no effect on anything (except the total number of shares o/s). Deals consummated before splits are adjusted based on split ratios. Splits also have no affect on the value of your holdings. They really represent the exchange of 1 piece of paper for 2 or 3. It's like getting two five dollar bills for a ten. You are no richer or poorer after the trade.

CTC

Well, as someone said, split won't make any difference, except
have the net effect (no pun) of making you wealthier. Playing
an AOL split (like MSFT) is almost coining money. Now I posted
this back in October, when AOL was at 61 (split adjusted) and
got a bunch of responses about 2 nickels for a dime, etc. But
since October 27 when I posted, AOL has gone from 61 to 136.
And I will contend that if AOL splits their stock again, it will
double within a year (will probably double anyways).

Yes, someday internet stocks will have their day of reckoning.
But AOL has something special, they have a foothold as the dominant
ISP, and they have successfully thumbed their nose at Microsoft,
and they've formed a unique community of internet users, and best
of all, they've got 14 million paying customers and growing. I'd
love to see the run on this stock if they raise their prices another
buck or two!
