All:

I have been using Scotia Discount Brokerage for over a year (by phone) and use a stopwatch to time almost every conversation and trade. I am pleased with the service and have only had one problem in the whole time (it was with a stop limit - they will not allow a stop without a limit price and will automatically set the limit at the stop, unless you say otherwise - kind of stupid, since if the price is falling it might not hit the stop limit at the stop price).

I do not use the electronic trading but prefer the personal touch. Calls average 1 to 2 minutes (with a usual 10-30 second ring in time before someone answers) I occaisionally get put on hold waiting for a ordertaker for 1 minute if the lines are busy - which can seem like an eternity. Orders appear on my SW screen in less than 10 sec on the TSE and around 30 sec for VSE and about 1-1.25 min for ASE.

Staff is for the most part cordial and efficient, but you have to watch for new ordertakers as they seem to have a problem getting used to their screens for the first few weeks. Otherwise I am pleased!
