Nihil, I suspect that you believe from your comments about the Roman Coliseum and football, that societies need outlets for very aggressive males. I would agree that the young, in particular, have a great deal of physical energy that they need to blow off, but I also believe that violence is TAUGHT, and that our society is a very violent one. I also think it is pathetic that sports are glorified.

There is a place in India where people do not even chop down trees because they perceive it as violent. This, and an observation of other cultures on earth, would seem to indicate that not all of them are violent. Physical energy can be channeled in many ways--how about sending active young people to help build houses for the poor, with Habitat for Humanity, for example?
