Jon,

I think you're probably right. I still have limited faith in economists, whether they work for a university or a private consulting firm. It's worth listening to them, but they rarely have the full story on anything, a consequence of their insistence on disregarding all factors that cannot be numerically quantified.

Steve

Princeton Econometrics is a private consulting firm. It's views expressed are purely the views of a miniscule multitude.

Hope the dialog about Europe continues here.

Having spent two months in Europe last summer I am not sanguine about the Franco-German alliance to "socialize" Europe. Remember a few years ago that the French railway workers went out on strike for the right of 50 year old workers to retire with full pensions: and, in Germany I think everyone by law is guaranteed five, or is it six weeks paid vactation a year.

Have any of you actually spent any time in Europe recetnly??

In the US, I don't know about your friends, but people are working hugely long weeks, and getting two week vacations.

At that try and buy anything in Europe on Sunday. Take a look at European manufacturing costs, then the agr input costs, etc.

To cap this off.... please address the subject of energy prices. $4.00 and up for the basic unit of energy that keeps society going. Add to that the VAT. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

This whole "ball of wax" is a recipe for.... the long sleep of Europe well into the next century.

Asia will come out of hibernation long before Europe does.

Best to you all,

Clark
