Cirrus, Compaq is probably the best thing going for AMD at the moment. I would bet that for future processors like the K6-3, Compaq will get first pickings at AMD's latest and greatest. Given Compaq's pull in the server industry, and also given that Dell is becoming a serious competitor in servers, I would also bet that Compaq would be the first to feature K7 servers and workstations.

(Heck, if it weren't for Intel being Compaq's number one supplier of CPUs, Compaq would be outright buying AMD like they bought Digital. Then they can continue down the road toward IBM-ness.)

I guess AMD's success depends heavily on how well they can work with Compaq. I would even rank this above AMD's new relationship with Motorola.
