AMAT can weather this "storm" better than anyone in this sector, I'm
sure that if an innovative niche technology company were in line with
AMAT's technology roadmap it would be prudent to buy it and the
patents/technology design rights. I saw an article a couple weeks ago
infering that AMAT might be talking/working with Lucent concerning
an e-beam based photo-lithography product technology called SCALPEL
developed by LU. This conceivably could allow lithography down to
around 0.08uM if my memory serves me right. Makes sense as this is
one area that AMAT hasn't dominated, yet, and would make the whole
equipment/technology package complete for the next 5+ years. The way
I see it, If you maintain your leadership position then everyone else
is always trying to catch up.
