Very well said. I do have a question, though. Large investment banking firms like GSCO, I suspect, do have market makers supporting their "pivotal" IPO issues when necessary. If Goldman and the assisting underwriters didn't support EBAY and GCTY, at least to some extent, during the critical market weakness in September and October, I would imagine we may not see such a robust IPO market in the last month. It seems a worthy investment since 3 (EBAY, INKT, Exodus) of Goldman's IPO top the best performers list in 1998.

In the case of EBAY, the well coordinated post quiet period recommendations were carried out extremely well, but of course that's more the function of the analysts in the research department.
