Improvements in magnetoresistive head production yields led to a rapid hard drive industry shift to MR - which also easily gave each company the tech to meet their 60% per year capacity gain roadmap. Keepered Media proved less economic with MR heads than with inductive. It did not sell. R&D for KM was reduced enormously- as befits research on a largely completed project - but the company has recently filed 2 patents that seem to have refined KM and also address its potential future use in flexible media. So it remains on the shelf - and while KM would not seem to be in AXC's medium term plans or hopes ( or those of investors ) - its future use in some form or another -if only to aid in control of thermal decay at extremely high areal densities years down the road - is not out of the question. Absolutely not something to count on though. An enormously pleasant surprise if it ever does sell.
