Read some analysts predictions that Desert Fox II is almost a given at this point in time. (Gosh, I'm starting to sound like a war monger!) So maybe the local activity had more validity than we thought.
One article presented the concept that the US can not win in this position. If we keep snuffing out rocket launchers and killing ten men at time, Iraq will continue to gain support from the other Arab nations. If you go all out, we will kill civilians and Iraq will gain support from everyone. If we go in and take Saddam out, no one in the world will ever trust us again.
So, what is one to to do?
I suggest we shut the oil export valves and let Saddam's people throw him out when he can't feed them. That would take 1.8 million barrels per day of crude off the market too!!! Prices would firm up, and I would definitely stay in business.
Is that selfish of me?
