I think I understand the concern over gift cards. If HD over order inventory only to see the purchase of that inventory passed over for a gift card, The Co. sees longer inventory turn which is not good. OTOH, if the card recipient returns to the store to buy that inventory PLUS other items in excess of the card value that is very good.

Seems to me that in the short and long run, gift cards are an excellent way to not only get dollars today but increase store traffic and build the customer base too. Go HD!
