Wren,

I read that article over the holidays at my in-laws. Nice charts accompanied the article. Lookingh at these arguments and the weak retail sales for Christmas I have to wonder if we haven't already started to see some effect from the market decline in Oct/Sept I know the market is back up again -- at least for a while, but I think people have already started to grow cautious. I think economists may be surprised (not difficult to surprise them, is it?) at how fast demand can contract here while everything looks so good, if the market were to tank again.

Did you catch Dreman's article in the same issue? He showed how badly analysts have stumbled in predicting future earnings in past years. As is expected during the bull they have always tended to err on the high side by a wide margin, even with all the creative accounting that goes on. Dreman says flat to negative earnings growth next year -- boy he's a sage isn't he? <VBG>

Good luck.,

Tippet

Princeton Economic Institute article about how Germany and France are trying to use EMU to force other countries to raise their taxes to remove "unfair tax competition", and the risk to the economies of Europe.
