That's the one I point people at, it's also no load,
they don't like market timers, but to dodge that bullet buy it
via a discount broker and leave it in street name.
There are a few that have beat it every so slightly, but they
get you foe .5% on exit, or what they called a
deferred front end charge.

Of course the SPY does as good as VFINX , and it pays a dividend and can be traded all day long, with the fund you get closing price.
It all depends on how much of a trader you are vs investor.
Sector funds are some peoples bag, and the new SPDRs may fit
that area nicely.

PS I'll add that with VFINX you can put in exact dollar amounts
if you want say to balance something like a short position.
with SPY not as easy to buy and sell odd lots.
Each one has an advantage, for some one..
