Yes, he committed suicide in Nov. 1940 at age 63.

Contrary to what some have said, he did not lose it all in the great crash and kill himself then. In the great crash he made something like $6 million in shorts but lost the same amount in longs, so he came out even.

In the 30s he was plagued by lawsuits because his manipulative techniques had become controversial, and new SEC rules making many of his techniques illegal put a damper on his success. Also his personal life was not doing too well. He had enough money to live comfortably at the time he died.
