Ali, re:As you might know, a part of competitive strategy
for an OEM is ability to find cheaper sources
for materials. In a solo-source Intel environment
they would not have that freedom.

As you know, it's not as simple as choosing the lowest cost provider. There are many factors OEMs use when choosing a CPU supplier: brand name, reputation, market segmentation, value, etc.
As far as I can tell, the only advantage AMD offers to OEMs is lower costs...not much of a competitive advantage when Intel can match AMD prices any time they want.

re:Speaking about economics, you probably wanted
to mention K.Marx instead of Darwin, right?

No, I'm a firm believer that the market ultimatley decides who will win and who will lose. The company who has the ability to adapt to market needs will survive.
