From this mornings WSJ - article on internet sales over the holiday season - extract follows:

Some industry watchers had expected cybersales to double this holiday season, to $2.3 billion. In fact, online sales more than tripled, according to a report expected to be released Monday by Boston Consulting Group and shop.org, an association of online retailers. It shows revenue up 230% from last year -- a number that might inspire envy in department stores saddled with hundreds of unwanted coats.

The figure is based on online sales from 17 major Web merchants. The study doesn't set a total dollar figure for holiday shopping on the Internet, but Boston Consulting said it is sticking by its earlier prediction that online sales will reach $13 billion for all of 1998. Other analysts had estimated a range of $6 billion to $8 billion for the year.

Sales in cyberspace this season were fueled by a huge number of first-time online shoppers. America Online Inc., for example, said it had more than one million first-time buyers on its service this month.

Analysts said the online sales aren't likely to fade with the winter snow. "This was not just a Christmas phenomenon, it's a case of people starting to change their overall buying patterns," said David Pecaut, senior vice president in charge of the Boston Consulting Group's e-commerce practice.

Sergio,

What's you take on IFLY prices now... I recall you thought that up to 10 before the news, it would keep rising. But 14 before the news might cause it to drop. Any thoughts?
