Dog,

There is no mention of the "powerful patent portfolio" in CPQ 10-Q.
If CPQ expected this to play a significant role in its business plans then it should have been discussed in either its "purchased In-Process Technology section" or the "Factors that may affect Future Results" section.

Oddly, there is no mention of CPQ patents in either section. So apparently CPQ do not share your view of the value of its current patent portfolio.

There is some mention of the two areas perceived to be of the most
significant as the UNIX/Open VMS and Storage markets. Their growth rates are estimated at 8% and 39% respectively. So the storage market appears to be a prime target for CPQ. But they are not expected to field these products until 1999. So any but kicking will be delayed.
