I agree that free trade is the best way to maximize the efficiency of the marketplace to enable consumers to obtain the best products at the best prices. In the ideal world it would work to the benefit of the world economy. However what action should be taken against countries or regions that agree to such policies and then take contrary action either with tariffs or non tariff barriers? The classic example of the hidden barriers has been Japan. They only loosened them (albeit only a crack) after the US threatened high duties on imports of Japanese vehicles.

I stand corrected on your tomahawk tossing remarks.
