Don't know much about DVD other than they have a much larger storage capacity than a standard CDROM, which I believe gives it the ability to store full-length movies.

Another quick question along the same lines;

I bought a Compaq laptop that didn't come with a CD drive.
Can I buy any IDE internal notebook CD drive and expect it to work (I was just going to pick one up at an auction, but my choices scare me)?

Inparticular, I was looking at a Teac drive;
___________________________________________________________
High performance; high speed access to data-intensive resources and processes -

Connects to the internal IDE controller - Connects directly to the internal IDE controller in the system unit. As a result, no separate adapter card is required for installation.

CD-DA audio playback and digital audio data transfer -

Uses 5.25-inch and 3.5-inch media - Uses 5.25-inch and 3.5-inch media without an adapter

IDE
128k Buffer
900 KB Transfer rate
180 MS Access Time

But this particular unit states "Fully compatible with IBM thinkpad TP 365/XD models."

Should I expect a unit like this to fit and work with a Compaq, or do I need to find one that implicitly states "compatible with Compaqs"?

TIA,
Steve
