hi jenna,
speaking of volatile: LIPO is another one to play for the next 3 weeks.

the main idea is that LIPO was put on fast track by FDA and by the
next few weeks they might have an approval...purely speculation...

Trading Strategies and Guidelines

What you can tell at a glance from this watch list? I've included the 1-Dy meaning any number over 100 indicates how much the stock was up on Thursday. 10MA, 21MA.. any number below 100 means it is trading below its respective 10day or 21 day moving average, any number above 100 is the reverse. The number in parentheses means in what percentile does the stock fall in that particular category: (i.e. QNTM.. is trading below it's 21 day moving average about 3.6% below which ranks it pretty low, only in the 20th percentile for all stocks..) Too many stocks trading above 10 day moving average signifies the market is overbought, so it is good to have a balance of some stocks that are still trading below.

Sto9V=.. the stochastics.. the lower the better especially if the stock is in an uptrend already. here again QNTM is pretty low with a 29.6 9 day stochastic ranking it in 36th percentile for all stocks.. Most of the stocks have higher stochastics rankings.

Mm12H.. is also very important.
This is the abbreviation for the 12/20/6 day Momentum Histogram. A good number would be about .8 to 1... A momentum histogram Under 1 as in quantum shows a stock that is not above it's zero line. For example The momentum is calculated by the rate the stock is rising or falling over a given time frame. The prices are 'smoothed' with a moving average.. The difference between the momentum and the moving average of the momentum is the "Momentum Histogram".. The Height of this Histogram is what is referred to as the Momentum Histogram..

If you're unsure whether the value of the histogram is overbought or oversold, look at the number in parentheses so you get at least an idea in what percentile this value falls into compared with the rest of the market.. For example, SDTI has a very high MMH.. It is overbought, and the only reason it is on this list is because SDTI is internet related and in a very strong uptrend.... OVERBOUGHT does not mean sell or that the stock will go down.. it is just a warning and should be heeded only when the slope of the line turns down.. SDTI is in the 97th percentile for Momentum Histogram, very high percentile indeed. Actually SDTI is quite overbought as you can see in the relative strength value which is 77.1 and the stochastic which is a very high 85.7. It's moving averages are also very high over the 100 line.. meaning tht SDTI is trading is 17.2% above 10 day MA and 25.6% above its 20 day MA.. Pretty overbought.

The last abbreviation is the W9Dv.. which is the 9 day Wilder Relative Strength.. Probably 14 is a better value, but let's leave it at 9. You don't want a number over 70 if you can help it, but again the same truth applies. If you are OVERBOUGHT you can be in a strong uptrend even for a month or more in the same OVERBOUGHT situation.. The same is true about OVERSOLD situations.. It does NOT follow that if your indicator show OVERSOLD it is time to get in.. only when the indicator crosses above its 25 per cent line, or crosses its moving averages would the stock become a buy. For example if a MACD shows oversold it can remain that way in a trading range, but once it crosses its 9-period signal line, then the stock is triggering what is called an "MACD BUY signal'..

Other indicators should confirm this. Same is true with with either trend following indicators (MACD,OBV,Accumulation/Distribution etc) and Oscillators (Stochastics Rate of Change, Relative Strength, Williams %R etc..)

OF course nothing takes the place of a chart, a visual depiction of the stock, but if you get used to it.. these abbreviations afford with little time expended and 'quickie' look at the stock's technicals.
