SHRP is poised.. Dec 23, 1998 (Tech Web - CMP via COMTEX) -- Christmas isn't quite here, but the holiday online-shopping season already ranks as a blockbuster if numbers coming out of Sharper Image are any measure. The retailer, which specializes in high-end electronic gadgets, personal care items and travel accessories, has claimed a 492 percent increase in online sales for the period from December 1 through 21. By contrast, store sales for the same period registered a 9 percent gain. Mail-order sales saw a 27 percent increase. Sharper Image, based in San Francisco, reported a 436 percent jump in online sales for the month of November. "As consumers get even more comfortable with online shopping, I expect Internet sales at our ... website will continue to increase," said Sharper Image CEO Richard Thalheimer, in a prepared statement.
