An excellent, well-written, article entitled "Hurry Up and Wait" on the problems of Cable and xDSL modems in bringing speed to the last mile. I don't have much technical expertise but I learned quite a bit from this article.

Frank and others:

I would like to pick your brains on a technical glitch
that seems to affect Winstar's wireless deployment in
Boston. Several customers seem to be afflicted by
sudden cutoffs in phone calls. Some of the regulars
on the Winstar thread have heard that it might be due
to ''wireless links being too short.'' Obviously, the
dropped calls suggest a problem with the overhead signaling
on the wireless links (which are still point to point
in Boston).

Do you know if the standard T1 frame structure is used
for wireless T1, and if yes, what could create the dropped
calls? One oddity is that the problems seem to occur only
in Boston, so human factors cannot be ruled out.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
