I think we agree here on 2 things:

1) Subsidies to generate the price "leveling" as you call it are not necessarily a bad thing in agriculture. It's sortof like the theory of insurance. We will pay more for insurance than our expected loss because humans tend to be risk averse. Subsidies are our insurance versus a food shortage. We recognize the cost added to the system, but feel the risk reduction justifies the added costs.

2) It would've been nice if UK would've put Duke away <g>. The team is young and the year will have its ups and downs. The experience of previous years is not there, and certainly the depth is lacking - especially at guard. With all of the youthful talent (Prince, Camara, Bradley, et al), this is the kind of team that can change alot in a years time though as players mature.
