I agree steve o. Even though this is speculation, the market makers seem eager to let the price rise or slide on relatively low volume. This can be confirmed by the low volume we often see early in the day. Someone dumping 1k to 5k lots could cause the stock to slide down a 1/4 or more and then later in the day buy back a large lot at a discount. Imagine 25, 1K sells lined up. The MMs are happy to make the commissions and scalp their fractions from the deal.

I think your suggestion is very plausible. The "little guy" gets caught up in the down draft and dumps his/her weak hand. Later in the day, the "big guy" buys up a nice size lot at a discount.

Pure speculation on my part,
Michael

Steve,
I was watching that trade on quote.com and it came in 1/4 below the bid when the price was doing its mini-rally. quote.com usually gives indication of late trades. not this time. This is a real cat & mouse game. Hope us share holders are the cats. Pattern is interesting. I've seen them drop a price down by a very small trade being last trade of day below the bid. Never noticed these games before. I'm liking this one.
Keeps you thinking.
Jim
