Hi Conscience,

First day I see. How did you find out about SI. What made you decide to jump in now? Are you an investor also?

Just curious.

Hi Conscience, welcome to SI and the Scandal thread. It's nice to see intelligent posters like you and Bob deciding to share your thoughts.

I thought you would enjoy some interesting quotes from our President. :-)

Michael

"A President must make many decisions about what is right and what is wrong. I was reared in the Christian faith, and throughout my life the Bible has given me much guidance .. As I face these tough issues, I will continue to turn to these beliefs for direction and clarity."

Hillary, and I go across the country [to] try to get more families to stay together and more intact families and support more responsibility for fathers .... You know, if every parent in this country, whether there was a two-parent family or a single-parent family, had the internal fortitude and the external skills to put their children first in their lives, the problems in this nation would drop dramatically in a decade.

-- Bill Clinton, ABC's Home show, December 10, 1993

Frankly, I'm fed up with politicians in Washington lecturing the rest of us about 'family values." Our families have values. But our government doesn't. I want an America where "family values" live in our actions, not just in our speeches.

-- Bill Clinton, acceptance speech, 1992 Democratic National Convention

It has always been a great honor for me as a person of faith to be able to share the spirituality of other Americans .... [H]ere in America more people believe in God, more people go to church or synagogue, more people put religion at the center of their lives than in any other advanced society on earth.

-- Bill Clinton, speech to B'nai B'rith, October 23, 1993

[T]here is a lot of talk always, and I have been part of this, talking about how each of us has to take personal responsibility for our own conduct. I believe that.

-- Bill Clinton, December 1, 1993

Every family, every parent, has to assume the responsibility for the most sacred trust they are given: the nurturing and care of the next generation.

-- Bill Clinton, Parade magazine, December 19, 1993

Well hello Conscience. Clever name you have there. A better one might be Sanctimonious_moralizing_under_the_guise_of_MY_conscience - just an fyi for the future.

Hmm it appears that the crux of your position comes down to this.

So please spare me and everyone else who believes the abuse of power is something very serious, of your uninformed opinions. Make opinions, but only if your willing to support them.

Support them? Oh ok. Lets see, here we have a 50 million dollar pornographic expose containing a very important factual account of corruption, yes very serious corruption - something a president should be impeached over.... right? Well is this sexual escapade a HIGH CRIME AND MISDEMEANOR or not? Spare me your uniformed opinion Mr or Ms Conscience - I wasnt a legal precedent where a president should be impeached over a consentual sexual affair. Maybe you think this has never happened before, where a president has had an affair - huh? Sure, but wait!, oh dammit there is that pesky Thomas Jefferson incident, lets look the other way on that one shall we - there must be some way to make this into a high crime, come on THINK REPUBLICANS THINK! The public doesnt think consentual sex is a high crime - this ship is going down (to use your analogy - this is one hell of a "Perfect Storm" is it not) now what????!!!

Wait a minute - wait - there is something more. An unproven allegation, a real crime! Yeah thats what we need, a real crime! Too bad we couldnt include it in the Starr report because, uh, it doesnt rise to the standard of proof required - but what the hell, we dug it up, its gossip + innuendo - call Tom DeLay and Matt Drudge! And get those weasily worm congressmen on the phone quickly (start with Tom "sleazy" Campbell) to show him THERES MORE! Yes this IS impeachment material.

Oh, one other thing, you watch any television? I seem to remember your president coming on and admitting that he "mislead" everyone. I'm fairly certain I wasn't the only one who saw that.

Do I watch television? Well yes indeed I do Mr. or Ms. Conscience. And I did in fact see Clinton claim that he was misleading. SO WHAT. I suppose Mr or Ms Sanctimonious that in your world misleading is a crime... is that what you are implying?
